Fly like an....
As most of you know, I have a sick passion for golf. Breaking par someday would be a dream come true. As for now, I'll stick to trying to break 70 as I have had 3 rounds in the 70's: 2 rounds at 79 and my lowest at 78. Tips from anyone (dad, friends, etc) and everything (tv, vids, mags, etc) have helped me develop my game. It was only a few years ago I struggled to break 100. Ant said the other day that "you're a mid 80's golfer now eh?". As much as it was a surprise to hear that I have been shooting rounds in the mid-high 80's. My last five rounds go as the following: 86 & 84 At Kingswood, 84 and Cambridge, 80 at Pushlinch, and 93 at Doon Valley. I would have to say that I'm in a bit of a groove right now and would like to make a push to get into the low 80's by the end of the summer.
My game is nothing exciting. I don't bomb drives like Shane or Eric nor hit consistant irons like Jarrett. It's my short game that I heavily rely on to bail me out when shots are sliced or pulled. It was my dad's friend, Shorty, that told me years ago that over 60% of your shots are 90 yards and in. I've spent many hours on my own at driving ranges or course working on chipping and putting. So for those of you out there that are trying to break 100, start with putting and chipping. Not that I'm a pro but it def help me cut down over 15 shots over the past few years.
So anyone that plays golf understand how frustrating it can be. Most people dont' want to get into it or are easily discouraged to play it because the sport is so unforgiving. One little error in your mechanics and your ball could end up anywhere but where you want to go. A great round could be ruined but a missed 1 foot putt or a ball that goes into the bush or water. There is however a few shining moments in which we actually pull off what we had tried to do. Whether is bombing a drive down the fairway, hitting that chip close to the hole, or draining a long putt, we actually feel like Tiger Woods from time to time (Tiger the golfer anyways...). Here's my moment in time.
The only eagle I've ever had was on the par four 10th hole. The hole is usually a low 300 yards in length. I t jsut so happened that day, they were working on the tee boxes so they had temp ones about 40 yards closer than usual. So I bombed a 3 wood (my driver ALWAYS sliced) and landed it on the green and hit a 12 foot putt u phill that broke about a foot to the left. It was 2 great shots and a 2 on the score card but I just never felt that it was a true eagle because the boxes were moved up.
It was on the 2nd hole at Cambrige golf course. It was a 446 yard par five. I had hit a great dive to the left side of the fair way. From about 190 yards out, I crushed my hybrid and had a great bounce and roll up the dance floor. From where we were it looked pretty close so I was pretty pumped for a very rare chance at an eagle. As we made our way to the green, I found my ball about 6 feet below the hole. Feeling a bit nervous, I remember my last putt the day before to shoot a 79 where I wussed out and left it short. As I eyed my putt, it looked like it was straight. As I stepped up I told myself that this putt will not be short. Once I hit my putt, it wasn't long till I knew it was in. I gave my best Tiger inpression with a fist pump and I finally had a legit eagle. It was such a cool feeling and probably could have shot 100 for the rest of the round (thank God that I didn't) but still be so pumped going home. Anyways this is for all of us that dream for making big shots/ putts like this.

Happy Birthday Kya!!!!
Alright, I know that this post is a bit late but Happy Birthday (June 4th) to my lil niece, Kya. I was lucky enough to be here to celebrate with her as she turned one. Our outfits actually matched as you can see in the pics (not planned). Kya is the cutest human being I’ve ever set my eyes on. I wish that my eyes were a video camera so that everyone could see what I’ve seen since I’ve been here. She is so big now and is on the verge of walking(she actually just stood up on her own today for a few seconds) and talking. She is so playful with smiles and all the little things that she does: blows kisses, waves good bye, dances, and even whistles (which I can’t even do). I could just watch her all the time and be totally amused. I love her so much and will protect her as if she was my own. I know that Shane and Eva are so proud of her and they should be because they’ve created such a beautiful human being. Kya, I love you, will always be there for you, and hope to spend many more birthdays (and any regular days) with you.

FORE!
So if it ever stops raining down here in southern Ontario, my dad, Shane, Anthony, and I would love to get out and golf. Most of you already know how much I love to golf but it is especially special when I get to go with my dad and brother. We don’t get to spend that much time together since my brother lives in Guelph and this is the first time since his wedding that both my dad and I are down here at the same time. The last time we all golfed together was in Kenora a few years back. Unlike basketball, volleyball, or soccer; golf is the only sport in which all of us can play together competitively for many years to come. It’s the only sport left in which our dad can keep up with us (with the exception of darts, in which both my dad and mom lay a beating to me at the Legion one night in Kenora). Our dad taught us the etiquette of golf; don’t talk while others are taking their shot, don’t step on someone’s line, dress properly, leave your clubs on the flag stick while putting so you don’t forget them around the green, etc. Like any other sport, our dad would give us tips and pointers to help us get better.
Over the past few years, our golf games have developed and there has been friendly competition whenever we get out on the course. Each of us has our own style. Dad is more of an all-around player from tee to green. My brother hits a long ball (chicks dig the long ball we always say). He’ll use a pitching wedge at the distance that I’d use a 7 iron. As for me, I rely on my short game (that’s what she said haha). My advantage is my touch around the green chipping and putting. Our different styles make for an interesting round and we usually shoot around the same score. For those of you wondering at home, I usually shoot lower but last year Shane beat me for the first time.
So if we eventually get out on the course, we will be playing for something worth more than money….bragging rights! (even though we will toss a toonie around for closest to the pin on par 3’s). It’s just friendly competition because we are all cheering for each other to shoot low and get more birdies than bogeys. Either way, I’m just happy to be able to get out with the boys. Keep you guys posted.

Guelph '10 Part 1
Most of you know that I'm out of town for the next week or so. My parents, Anthony, and I are in Guelph for Kya's first birthday on the 4th. Here's a sneak peek at Kya who is so big now. She's actually been a little shy to start off but it took a day for her to warm up to me and at least let me hold her for a few mins. Tomorrow I will set out to find her present. Any ideas? I'll try to get some stuff up here as soon as I can. Bye for now.
